Create a Family Jumpsite
Back

It’s the start of a new school year and the kids are out the door…no wait!

Where is the math homework, do you have your permission slip, your sports                               equipment, dance clothes for the after school class???   Who’s lunch is still
on the counter, where are the library books, do you have a sweater???

Sound familiar?  The new school year will be upon us soon and it’s time to think ahead.  Why not set up what every family needs, a “Jumpsite”,  a place near the door where every family member can gather the things they’ll need for the day.

A wall of lockers for each person would be nice but most of us lack the space, to say nothing of aesthetics.  You don’t need much space, just a little thought and planning.  A row of hooks for coats, helmets and backpacks over a low bench is great.  Add a large basket or crate under the bench (one for each person?) for shoes, sports equipment library books or videos.  A shelf above the hooks for keys, lunches and eyeglasses, better yet.  Color code the containers for each family member, life is even easier.  If the lunch bags are color-coded with a sticker, even better.

Suddenly that last minute chaos is eliminated.  No more rushing out the door and right back in for forgotten items.  The kitchen counters are visible, not piled with homework and books and everyone starts the day calmly.  Create a Jumpsite for your family and jump start the day (and the school year) with a smile!
