We're headed into week 2 of 2006. How many of you have already broken your
New Year's Resolutions?
The problem with most resolutions is that they're vague, ie. I'm going to lose weight, I'm going to use my gym membership, I;m finally going to get organized.
I'm pretty sure General Eisenhower didn't win World War II by saying," I'm finally going to win this thing"! I am sure that he had a plan of action, a timetable for each step of the plan and a way to measure his success.
The difference between muttering vague resolutions and setting a goal is having a plan to reach a goal.
The Texas Longhorns didn't win the National Championship kicking off and scoring six touchdowns. They won it one yard, one down, one score at a time. We can translate that into one step, one level, one goal at a time.
The keys to meeting a successful resolution or goal are;
- laying out the steps needed to reach said goal
- deciding how one will measure success
It's not "I finally be organized", it's-
- I want to clean, put away or get rid of all the clutter in the basement by February 15
- I'll need; cleaning supplies, trash bags, boxes, magic marker, more shelves
- I'll sort into subject (crafts, sports, seasonal, donate, trash) by January 15.
- I'll then decide how many boxes and/or shelves I'll need and get them together by January 20.
- By February 5 I will assemble new shelving.
- By February 15 I will have all sorted items put away on shelves.
- I'll measure my success by taking a picture as I reach each step and ultimately by being able to walk across the room without jumping over anything, LOL!
